The town of Meiwa in Mie Prefecture will begin cultivating marijuana for textile use at the site of the Saiku Shrine, a national historic site associated with the Ise Jingu Shrine in the town. A non-toxic variety will be planted in April. In addition to being marketed as a specialty product, the town aims to use it in Shinto rituals.
